Hi, I’m Taylor
I help authors like you create plausible, accurate, and engaging science and scientists in their stories
About me
I’m a scientist with a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, specializing in biochemistry, drug discovery and development, and microbial systems. My research background includes bacterial genetics, enzymology, and biosynthesis, with a focus on how microbes produce biologically active molecules, including toxins.
I work with fiction writers as an authenticity reader and scientific consultant, helping them craft scientifically sound, plausible scenes and create fully realized scientific characters that reflect the nuance and diversity of people in research.
My Experience
My expertise includes realistic depictions of scientific training (from graduate school through postdoctoral research), laboratory work (assays, experimental design, and equipment), microbial science, drug discovery, and the day-to-day realities of academic and biotech environments. I also advise on research timelines, decision-making, and how science actually unfolds in real life. I have worked in labs at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions, RO1 Universities, and at Biotech Start-ups. I have have seen a variety of lab settings and know many different types of Scientists.
I’m particularly interested in improving how scientists are portrayed in fiction, moving beyond stereotypes to capture the nuance, collaboration, feuds, and personality I’ve witnessed in real research settings. The world of research can in fact be quite dramatic and emotional. Lets work together to break the classic depiction of Scientists in literature.
If your story involves science, medicine, research, or a laboratory backdrop, I can help.
